A little more about us..
- By Arav Mohit

We Kayasthas trace our descent from Adi Purush Shri Chittraguptajee Maharaj. It is said that after Lord Brahma had created the four Varnas (Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas and Shudras), Yama Dharamraj had requested Lord Brahma to help him record the deeds, good and evil, of men, and to administer justice.

The importance of our ancestry and our heritage is rarely realised in the hustle and bustle of present life. Here is my attempt to remind you about the rich legacy we Kayasthas carry forward.

Hindu Mythology believes that the entire world, as we know it, was created by Lord Brahma, the Creator. Lord Brahma first created 16 Sons from various parts of his own body. Shree Chittraguptajee, his 17th creation, is believed to be the creation from Lord Brahma's Mind & Soul.

In the Garuda Purana, Shri Chittraguptajee is hailed as the first man to give the script.

The birthday of Chitragupta is celebrated on Yama Dwitiya and Chitraguptajayanti Puja is performed on this day.

The Anthropological Survey of India conducted a assessment during the British Raj which concluded that our community were among the most influential during the Mauryan period as administrators. In addition, many proofs have been found that the Hindu Kings used to grant lands to our ancestors, a trend which favoured few communities, ours being one of them.

Members of our community were one of the most influential Caste in Kashmiri politics around 7th century!

Amitabh Bachchan and Shatrughan Sinha, Mukesh and Sonu Nigam are few famed members of our community.

Dr. Rajendra Prasad, 3rd Prime Minister of India, Lal Bahadur Shastri are also from our brethren.
